SYM Statement of Faith
Founded on the principle of a love for our neighbor that extends beyond barriers of class, housing status, race, or any other socially dividing identity, we at Street Youth Ministries are committed to serving the Lord Jesus Christ through our faithfulness to the call of Matthew 25:31-46. We believe Jesus Christ identifies with the poor, the oppressed, and the marginalized, and we believe it is our honor and privilege to be loving Jesus in the young people we serve in our services. In that, we are committed to serving the unhoused young people of the U District to the best of our abilities, regardless of their religious beliefs, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or gender identity.
We affirm our Christian identity with the following statement of faith:
We believe in the Almighty triune God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Rev. 1:8; Matt. 3:16-17; John 10:30).
We believe that Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection is the fulfillment of God’s plan of redemption for humanity, rescuing us from the bondage of sin, death, and division (1 Cor. 15:13; 1 Peter 3:18).
We believe that all people are deeply loved by God and worthy of our love (Romans 5:8, 11:28-32, 14:7-11).
We believe the Bible is the inspired, authoritative Word of God (2 Tim. 3:16).
We believe that Christians are the Body of Christ (1 Cor. 12:27), and that we have been tasked with doing the work of Jesus until His return (1 John 2:6; John 13:15; Matt. 25:45-46).
